The new Subaru Crosstrek keeps most of its upgrades under the hood. For 2026, the Crosstrek gets a new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers more horsepower and torque. It offers an excellent ride, good fuel economy, standard all-wheel drive, and enough ground clearance for mild off-roading, all in a reasonably sized package. Plus, Subaru has added more standard safety gear.

New SUV Ratings & Reliability:

Solid car. The Subaru CVT has quite good simulated shifts which is a welcome audio mental break instead of the constant drone of others.
All Subarus are dangerous.
3 of my family members were killed in 3 different accidents.
waiting for this!!
We really reached a point where a non-top trim subcompact SUV is almost as much as a leather trimmed compact SUV from even just before the pandemic. Crosstrek isn’t a bad car, but 33k for a non-limited trim just seems absurd.
CR you all are giving Subaru tremendous grace with their infotainment system. It’s horrendous and they should recall it. It’s a safety issue because it’s so glitchy and its not responsive. It’s inherently distracting because it doesn’t follow through when you touch a button so you have to continually touch the button to work.
Thanks for the review! A couple of points:
1. The useless wireless charging pad–lots of complaints from other Crosstrek owners. I have a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and have also had dismal results with the charging pad. Part of the issue is that smaller phones are going to slide from side to side and won’t stay put over the charging point.
2. The infotainment lag–Some people report that the lag, while still present at startup, is reduced when the WiFi hotspot feature is turned off.
3. The so-called Intelligent/Sport switch gives you a little more acceleration and responsiveness in Sport mode, partly because it keeps the engine at about 500 more rpm.
It would being nice if the used the CB18 or 1.8 turbo engine in it for more torque, they already produce this engine for JDM
CB18 specification Displacement: 1,795 cc (1.8 L) DOHC, turbocharged
Bore × stroke: 80.6 mm × 88 mm (3.17 in × 3.46 in)
Compression ratio: 10.4:1
Power: 177 PS (130 kW; 175 hp) at 5,200–5,600 RPM
Torque: 300 N⋅m (31 kg⋅m; 221 lb⋅ft) at 1,600–3,600 RPM
