2025 Volvo EX90 Review | Consumer Reports

2025 Volvo Ex90 Review | Consumer Reports 1

The all-new Volvo EX90 promises luxury and innovation — but in reality, it feels unfinished. Buggy software, inactive features, and warning lights plague this $80K EV. Volvo once stood for stability, but the EX90 shows the risks of rushing a “software-defined” car to market. Sometimes, it’s worth waiting before buying an all-new model.

I had a Fisker Ocean for 8 months. only had 1 issue a dead 12v that needed servicing.

  3. Great review. I think I’ll stick with my 2005 XC90. It’s challenging enough with a Can bus system but software defined vehicle?

    • Exactly. Tried & true. Plus I do not like to pay extra to be an early adopter (ahem glorified beta tester, or what sometimes feels like an alpha tester).

Volvo is owned by China’s Geely and a lot of its engineering (as well as a lot of the components) was done in China. If you’re itching to own a Chinese car, you can buy a Volvo today! BTW, if you want to buy an Indian car, you can buy a Jaguar or a Range Rover.

    • How about if I’ve only bought German & Japanese vehicles for all 47 years of my driving? So sorry China & India, but no.

  5. It’s like a high-end Scandinavian furniture store inside this thing! I don’t care for the ultra-minimalist cabin design on many modern EVs, but Volvo does it right; it looks and feels worth the price, for the most part. That being said, the bean counters took away too many of the buttons and knobs. The real deal killer for me is that a retractable shade for the glass roof panel is not offered.

    • Ironic, since fellow owners of my model of crossover vehicle complain so loudly about the panoramic roof not opening all the way to the rear seat area!

so basically just get a cadillac vistiq

  7. What I got from this review is that this is a 💩 Chinese car.

    • Honestly, this was far & away the craziest online car review I’ve ever seen or heard. I might congratulate Volvo for that, if it wasn’t so crazily embarrassing!

Really wish more manufacturers would better integrate the screens. It still looks like they’ve just mountaed a huge iPad into the dash…embarrassing for a 2025 car starting at $90,000.

And of course…let’s stop putting basic functions like the _fan_ (of all things) three layers deep inside some software. Physical buttons, please. Let’s get real.

LoL. How worse can it be?

  10. @NancyLeveque | November 17, 2025 at 4:12 PM |

no surprise. Volvos are pure junk. They should close down

  11. @stevejoseph1664 | November 17, 2025 at 4:36 PM |

It’s a nice looking vehicle, It’s ashamed that the software glitches and everything in the screen lets it down.

  12. 4 mins to start? That’s a really bad risk. Wow.
