VW made its reputation by building reliable, solid, economical, easy to repair, and cute cars. You could buy one for about $1600. I owned a ’67 Beetle, an early ’70s Super Beetle and a SunBug. Boy, did they go wrong: complex, expensive and not nearly as reliable; such a shame.
Puzzling, because I doubt that eliminating the two additional switches reduced VW’s production costs (since it requires another switch and logic to change the remaining switches’ function) and because it reduces the driver’s ability to operate the window switches totally by touch/feel. I’m all for innovation, but some controls evolved to a certain form for a reason other than mere familiarity.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you SHOULD. What’s next, a steering wheel that points the car in the opposite direction of the way it’s turned (hmm…although that might be handy for backing a trailer 😂).

Absolutely ridiculous in the summer heat when you need to open the windows

VW thinks we’re all idiots. Shame on them.
You’re just lucky you don’t have to go through three menus in the touchscreen to raise or lower the windows. 😂
This prevents me to open rear windows accidentally so I like this way.
