2025 Volkswagen Id. Buzz | Consumer Reports 1

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is an all-electric van that's been tailored for North America. It has three rows of seating, optional all-wheel drive, and up to 330 hp. But is this version for real? Despite being introduced as a concept vehicle in 2016, the ID.Buzz has yet to hit the road here in the U.S.

The concept of this was fantastic. What the hell happened?

It would be helpful to have more than one opinion about the driving position/comfort.

Yeah, seams like all he needed to do was raise the seat. Would have given him more support under his thighs, and straightened out his legs. As he said, there was plenty of headroom to spare. Would have allowed him to see out the front better as well. (Although I’m pretty sure there is better frontal vision in this than say ANY TRUCK sold in America..)

  3. It would be nice if they actually released useful information about it.

I’m having a hard time getting excited for something they teased this long and that is bound to be super expensive.
Still with the touch controls on the steering wheel, even after VW apologized for how misguided it was…
Still with touch controls for HVAC while other manufacturers have already corrected for that mistake in their refreshed models…
VW is huge and they move too slow. What happened to my former favorite automaker? They are clumsy in a market where they need to be nimble.

I hope they offer a PHEV or gas/hybrid version of this as well. I was excited about this years ago but I still have a hard time believing I will be able to get one in Canada before I’m dead.

    • @Nicholas_H | April 1, 2024 at 7:04 PM |

Nope- only going to be an EV

    • PHEV or Range Extender would be awesome.
Perfect for camping with its own onboard ICE generator.
Hoping these OEMs see that the next wave of buyers aren’t BEV absolutists.

PHEV is dead , Hybrids are being outsold by TESLA.
and even a $35k model 3 lasts Decades longer than PHEV.

      Strictly BEV I’m afraid.

  6. In the old VWs, the odd little window behind the A-pillar was called the wing window. Or sometimes it was called air conditioning.

    • @allankoivu3263 | April 1, 2024 at 8:59 PM |

I remember them being called “no draft” window vents

one of my Neighbors had a old Type 2 in the 1980’s , and me and his Daughter would play in it. I would sometimes hide where the Table was stowed. lol.

I really want to get one of these for my brother. Such a cool car.

I am SO sick of hearing about this damn bus. (Buzz). Over 10 years ago it was in the automotive news and every year they show us pictures and prototypes and say ‘Next year, next year’…. I’ve sat in it 2 years in a row at the L.A. auto show, each time saying next year. I’ve gone to the release at Huntington Beach Calif. and they say next year. Quit reporting on it, it’s just click bait from VW! 😠

VW is taking too long and they don’t realize that people are losing interest in this one! I’m tired waiting for this .. going with Volvo EX90

Imagine the dealer MARKUPS on this thing?

  11. @blueskunk9163 | April 1, 2024 at 7:55 PM |

Ship it already, VW! And make a camper version too!

I want to see that funny looking blue car in the background, looks like it could sell well!

  13. I actually saw this on the road in NJ today.

Saw the new electric VW bus at the Vancouver Auto Show in March 2024. They admitted it was an Italian model. Absolutely gorgeous exterior, kind of sparse interior. There are none released in North America – yet.

  15. @mjrtensepian1727 | April 1, 2024 at 10:45 PM |

That German startup “Xbus” better captures the ethos of old VW buses; This thing’s plastic clad interior makes it seem like a 2000s car.

  16. The original bus was good cause it was simple. Didn’t have a bunch of additional options to jack up the price. Is any car company in touch with consumers?

  17. @risshirajshah9593 | April 2, 2024 at 12:57 AM |

By the time ID BuZZ makes it to US, it will be time for a redesign.

  18. I previously was considering getting a VW Buzz, but I lost interest after hearing about estimated pricing (>$50k) and hearing about bugs/reliability issues from people who drove them in Europe and from people’s experiences with the ID4.

I came across my first one in the flesh yesterday here in the Netherlands. They do exist

  20. @matthewsimmons2008 | April 2, 2024 at 11:39 AM |

They sure took their time and let the buzz die down. I wanted one when it was debuted but it’s been so long that I’ve forgotten about it and it’s still not available for purchase
