2026 Tesla Model Y Review | Consumer Reports

2026 Tesla Model Y Review | Consumer Reports 1

The 2026 Tesla Model Y offers a practical balance of size, driving range, and price. With some exterior styling updates, most changes are similar to those made to the refreshed Model 3, which we tested last year. Still, the Model Y remains competitive among electric SUVs, thanks to quick charging, a smoother ride, and access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network.

Y is the most common response when you tell people you bought a Tesla.

Having owned a Tesla for 4 years, having everything on the screen and intuitive made driving so much safer.

The tonneau cover can be stored under the rear cargo floor. An Improvement from last gen

  4. There are people who still willingly support Elon Musk?

    • @cedric182 | July 16, 2025 at 3:20 PM |

I don’t. But others work at Tesla. Not just Elon.

    • This is such a lame take. The idea that buying a Tesla means you’re supporting Musk because it causes Tesla stock to rise doesn’t even make any sense. The majority of investors in the U.S have exposure to Tesla’s stock performance through ETFs and 401k / retirement accounts. The Model Y is also made in America with mostly American parts. So in reality a Model Y purchase means support for American jobs and supply chains not some lame political statement.

Yes. Why would they not? American company employing American workers.

    • Tell yourself whatever you want to, but you have no plausible deniability going forward….

    • @@brocklanders6969 That’s all it takes to disregard your morals, assuming you have morals?

  6. White interior is better. The camera is having trouble focusing. Does it have floor lights? Can’t see anything even during the day.

So glad I chose not to get a Tesla a couple of years ago. It’s the same car, it’s totally tired at this point. I ended up with an Ioniq 5 which I do Iike a lot but they al have issues.

You can place the privacy cover away. It’s under the mat. It stores away there. Consumer reports failed me

  9. when can you ever get a base price with no option for $34k?

    • @davidm5707 | July 16, 2025 at 3:54 PM |

That’s what I wondered. Can you get it without $17,000 of options?
Not that I’d ever buy one.

My favorite car reviewer at CR. Everyone else comes in tied at a very close second.

  11. Cargo cover can be stored under the trunk floor. Exterior door handles are not a problem for me after eight years of use.

it’s a common compliant for anyone who hasn’t spent more than 2 minutes with the car. most of my passengers get used to it after the second time. so annoying that people are this incompetent

    • @geoffreyevans6133 | July 16, 2025 at 4:07 PM |

I had a Tesla employee put it under the trunk floor for me before I drove off.

Thoughts on the “missing ” shifter

STILL one of the ugliest cars on the road. It reminds me of a pregnant guppy. Top half window, bottom half car. I remember when it first came out the car critics gave it a pass because it’s a Tesla.

  15. @LlyleHunter | July 16, 2025 at 3:56 PM |

I’ve driven and ridden in a few imof them and without saying it out loud because I didn’t want to offend the owners I kept asking myself Y wHY YYY!

  16. @PhysicsOperator | July 16, 2025 at 3:58 PM |

There’s a reason why it’s the best selling and the model Y version L is going to be a small step till robotaxis
