 Dominica has two airports: the biggest of the two ia the Melville Hall Airport, 56km (35 miles) north-east of Roseau,
can accommodate turbo-prop aircraft and cargo jets of up to Boeing 737 capacity. Although Melville Hall, which is one and a half hours from the city, Roseau, is much bigger, it is not an international airport. International flights from US and Europe are connected to the island through hubs in Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Guadeloupe and Martinique and Puerto Rico usually completes the Dominican leg of these flights. There is American Eagle operating out of Puerto Rico with Liat operating all legs. The second of the two airports is located at Canefield, 5km (3 miles) north of Roseau, the capital of Dominica and is about 10 to 15 minutes drive to Roseau depending on the traffic. The Canefield runway is 3,100ft long and will easily accommodate the small aircrafts offering intra-regional commercial and private air traffic daily. |
| There is a newly built fishing port in Roseau and there are regular and reliable shipping links across the Caribbean region and with all major ports in the US, Canada and Europe. A 300-seat catamaran operated by L'Express des Îles ferries passengers between Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Lucia. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive on the island from Cruise Ships berthed at the Bayfront, Woodbridge Bay, and Cabrits. Captains of Yachts and Sailboats can also anchor their private yacht at any of the island's official ports, but they should check in with customs and immigration on arrival. |  |
