Hi Fellow athletes and all Dominicans,
I'm just writting to fill you in on my progress in school, this indoor season, upcoming conference meet and outdoor season.
The year started great for me having transfered from my original university. Right now I am enrolled at the University of Missouri kansas City (UMKC). I received a full scholarship from this school and things are going great. Last year I did exceptionally well the two semesters I spent at Mid-America Nazarene University, I transfered with a GPA of 3.68. I am doing great in academics and track. We are nearing the end of our indoor season and one of the highlights is our conference meet scheduled for February 27-28. We are defending champions and we are going for the rings again this year.
I hope that all the athletes on Dominica are training hard and striving to be the best.
To my parents, brothers and sister - thanks for pointing me in the right direction. To all my teamates on the Portsmouth Amateaur Athletic Club (PAAC) I say go for the gold. To my Swiss coaches, Andy & Chris, thanks for believing in me and taking the time out of your busy schedules to help with our training on PSS grounds, Cabrits hills and Purple turtle beach. Enjoy the rest of 2000. God Bless

Cross country season Is over, but just to let you know, I did not run it. I only practice all through the season.Coming straight from high where the training is somewhat tough, it's nothing like high school. At the beginning of the season I had a lot of problems with my back, I could not jog for five minutes without it hurting me. But I hang in there and I made it through.
My first indoor track meet will be at Manhattan College in new york city. I'm looking forward to that track mee, but unfortunately I will not be running as part of the team. I'll be running unattached to the team. Thats because I'm yet to be cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse. Until I am cleared by them,I'll not be able to run college track. By the way, I'm on a full Track and field scholarship here at NYIT.
I had a great indoor and outdoor season last school year. But I know that I could have done much better, but I fooled around a little too much. But besides that I had to see to it that my grade were up where they were supposed to, above the 80. At the end of the two years of school i'm here my G.P.A was a 4.76, that's an averge of a 95%. My best times for the year went like this: 100m which I ran anchor leg,not open was a 10.2sec which I ran at the penn relays; 200m was 22.2sec and I ran 22.8sec when I went to florida for the jonior pan-american games;400m I ran a 49.2sec at the state qualifiers; 600m was 1:22.7sec indoors; 800m was 1:56.4sec which I ran indoors too. To me the season was an accomplishment, but it could have been a succeess.
Thanks to loblack Bryan and Curtley Bynoe for starting me off and letting me know how far I can go. And thanks to magarette for watching my back. Love, peace and harmony to all my fellow dominicans and may the warm of the season brings lots of joy to the heart of the family.

Karina is the daughter of Vans ( AID Bank Manager, 1977 - '88) & Winsome LeBlanc ( Grammar School teacher, '77 -'88.) She attended Convent Prep with her sister Sharma, and has a younger brother Kurt.
The family's migration to British Columbia, Canada, gave the children multiple opportunities to extend themselves and to develop untapped skills.
Karina became recognized as B.C's most pure athlete in 1997, and was regarded as one of the top 20 recruits in USA Today.
Karina graduated with academic and athletic honours from Maple Ridge Secondary School, (Canada) June 1997, and chose a full four-year scholarship to this university, from 19 scholarship offers.
At that time,16-year old Karina LeBlanc chose Nebraska for a full 4 year scholarship from the 19 offers. Karin Mark of the local "NEWS" presented Karina with the NEWS "Woman of Distinction in Sports" award, (Sun., Nov 16,1997).
Karina also captured the "BC Most Defensive Player 1997" BASKETBALL award, as well as Academic Honors and Athlete of the Year Awards at her High School graduation. Now 18, Karina became the youngest member of Canada's National Women's Soccer Team as back up(ages ranging 18 to 35) and may have the dual role as Goalkeeper on the Under-20 National team as well. In addition she is the starter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The NCAA playoffs, continues each weekend. The NCAA finals will be in North Carolina on Dec 4 - 6. After final exams, (and hopefully maintaining her academic honors) she will train in Victoria with the U-20, Dec 14 -20, and National Women's team in Australia, Jan 1 -14 .
The National Women's team won an automatic bye in Etobicoke, Ontario in August, to the World Cup June 1999 in the USA. The top 8 teams will advance to the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, in the year, 2000.
"LeBlancing Opponents
Entering the third round of the NCAA Tournament, the Huskers have the
advantage of a hot goalkeeper in Karina LeBlanc (Maple Ridge, British
Columbia).
In her first NCAA Tournament start, LeBlanc had seven saves, all in the second half, to post her 11th shutout of the season. Since allowing four goals to UCLA on Sept. 18, LeBlanc has allowed eight goals in 16 games, while posting 10 shutouts.
LeBlanc may have had the best performance of her two-year career stopping a school-record 12 shots against Texas A&M in the Big 12 Conference Tournament semifinals on Nov. 6. Entering the Texas A&M contest, LeBlanc had made 25 saves on the season and 13 in league play. Of her 12 saves, the biggest two came in the final minute of regulation and the final 30 seconds of the second overtime.
Texas A&M's Nicky Thrasher twice broke free from the Nebraska defense, but LeBlanc made two diving saves to keep the Huskers' hopes alive. In the Big 12 Tournament title game, LeBlanc made one save, stopping the Tigers' Kate Dwyer on a breakaway.
On the season, LeBlanc is 16-2-1 in goal, while owning a 0.63 goals-against average with 11 shutouts. Her 16 wins in her career place her second on the Huskers' career wins list. She is also second in career games played with 30 and minutes played by a goalkeeper with 1,933.
LeBlanc ranks 11th in the country with her 0.63 goals-against average, allowing 12 goals in 19 games. Crystal Gordon of Santa Clara leads the nation with a 0.13 goals-against average."

I am sorry to greet you with the news that; My fall semester bill is unpaid up to this time. The school said that if it is not paid by the end of the semester, I won't be allowed to register for spring, and they won't honor my scholarship and that would mean sending me back home. The ministery of Education/Sports /Youth Affairs knows about this since at the begining of the semester. Please help me in reaching out to them or anyone willing to help me.
The bill is $2420. for the fall semester. I got $4000.to play soccer and $4500.to play basketball for the first year. I'm expectedto move to a full scholarship for the remaining three years.I really want to persue my career in education, but I need to come up with the $2,400.00 before the end of the fall semester. T he school cost approximately $12,000.00 per year.
Thanks for your cooperation.Lets keep the hope of Dominican athletes overseas alive.

Hello, how is everything back home.
I"ve been here at Brescia for over a month now, along with fellow Dominican Jameson Challenger.
Basketball practice began in August. My ankle which was injured in May back home in our local league, began troubling me. Our trainer looked at it and a cast was consequently placed on it.
Right now the cast is off and I have again begun practice.
Presently Jameson is not practicing with the team, he is playing football for the college. Next year I think he will comence basketball.
I'd like to say hi too all the basketball players back home. I heard the national team did not do well in St. Lucia. Jameson and I are looking forward to joining the team next year. Practice here is nothing like it was back home. We lift weights, run a lot, and there are so many fundamental basketball skills that I am being taught.
Nevertheless I am enjoying myself here. Bye

Whats up all Dominicans, Cakafete...?
Cross country season have started and it is already a very interesting one.
My school, Lindenwood University has started off with a Blast at our first
Cross country meet.We came in with our first 5 guys in the top ten.
Our team comprise of 7 guys. Namely Sharif Karie (Samolian), Sean Birren (American), Carl Gilpin (American), Gezachw Yossef (Israel), Neehall Philogene (Dominican), Cary Elridge (American) and Steve Humphrey (American).
Presently as a team we are ranked third in the nation. In our first race which was five miles I placed 9th, in a time 26min 22sec. In the second race which was a 10km, I placed 16th in a time of 33mim. From looking back at these two races Coach Willie, the long distance coach is predicting that come Indoor and Outdoor track season he believes I am going to be faster than last season time of 3min 54sec in the 1500m. But as a humble child only the lords know how fast thats going to be and how deep I dig. Praise God ....I am in a tremendous and improved cross country shape...Merci...
Our next race is in Oklahoma State University and it will be a five miles, on October 3.
Also THANKS to all my Coaches in DA....LOBLACK, CURTLEY and BRIAN BYNOE... Keep Coaching them children......build that fondation and we will achieve that ultimate Goal.

Kirtis (boca) Langlais:
Well I ran track at the above university for two seasons and retired in my senior year at school, because I was involved with an engineering internship. My first year, 96-97, performance was limited to 52sec in the 400m simply because I was a walk-on with no experience. However, in the 97-98 season I had a personal best of 48sec and a high 47 on the mile relay (4x400m)anchor leg. I meet great athletes from D/ca, including Dawn and Hermine but also had the opportunity to meet Carl Louis at the Texas Relays. I had to quit but i am by no means a quiter. Presently, i hold a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering and work for a prominent company in Dallas as an Industrial Engineer. I know Andy and Chris try following my stats on the net but i just could not ballance the schedule. a message to the athletes in Dominica: hold on to your dreams and great thinks will happen but EDUCATION IS IMPERATIVE FOR SUCCESS. Just imagine I never ran in d/ca but i was able to get a full tution, fees and books scholarship at an NCAA DIV II University. thanks for the time and God bless.

Jerome Romain:
1998 have been a great year for me so far. I had a great indoor season; one in which I had two personal indoor best within the space of two weeks. My personal best indoor jump of 17.03m (55'11.5") was the 7th best indoor mark in the world this year. I also started my outdoor season with a blast. Presently my outdoor mark of 17.18m (56' 4.5) ranks as the 3rd best jump in the world this year behind world record holder Jonathan Edwards.
Here's some really exciting news. I will be competing at this summer's Goodwill Games in New York. Yes! It is official, I found out last week. Wish me Luck. O.K.
I will be heading to Spain on Wednesday to compete in a Grand Prix I event. Till next time: Peace and Much Much Love. To my fans and friends, THANKS FOR THE CONTINUED SUPPORT.
